Introduction
Dr.
Gerard J.
Hunter is
one of The
Eye Institute's
specialist
in the areas
of ophthalmic
plastic surgery,
reconstructive
eyelid surgery,
and orbital
trauma. Usually
known as
oculoplastic
surgery,
this subspecialty
concerns
the evaluation
and treatment
of tissues
around the
eye and the
orbit. While
this can
be confused
with purely
cosmetic
surgery,
all treatments
are devoted
to the preservation
and improvement
of vision,
usually with
improved
cosmetic
results.

Dr.
Gerard J. Hunter
has been
in private
practice
in Tulsa
since 1979.
He completed
his undergraduate
education
at the University
of Rochester
in Rochester,
New York.
He received
his medical
degree from
Albany Medical
College of
Union University
in Albany,
New York
where he
has elected
to the Alpha
Omega Alpha
Honor Society,
representing
the top ten
percent of
his class.
His postgraduate
education
in ophthalmology
was received
in Washington
D.C. at the
George Washington
University
Hospital
and the Washington
Eye Center,
where he
served as
Chief Resident
during his
final year
of ophthalmic
training.
Following
residency,
Dr. Hunter
received
an additional
year of training
by completing
a fellowship
in ophthalmic
plastic and
reconstructive
surgery at
the University
of Texas
at Houston.
Dr. Hunter
is certified
by the
American
Board of
Ophthalmology
and is
a Fellow
of the
American
Academy
of Ophthalmology.
Since coming
to Tulsa,
he has
taught
at the
University
of Oklahoma
and is
now an
Assistant
Professor
of Clinical
Ophthalmology.
To further
medical
education,
Dr. Hunter
donates
one month
per year
of his
time serving
as a senior
faculty
member
for Orbis
International.
Orbis provides
ophthalmic
education
in underdeveloped
foreign
countries.
Based on
a DC-10
airliner,
Orbis brings
technological
advances
to areas
in urgent
need of
improved
eye care
procedures.
Dr. Hunter
was selected
as one
of the
original
investigators
in the
use of
Botox injections
since 1980. He
currently
offers
these treatments
to a large
number
of patients
diagnosed
with Hermifacial
spasm,
Meige Syndrome
and Blepharospasms.
His experienced
staff and
state-of-the-art
equipment

accurate
diagnosis
and treatment
with maximum
safety
and comfort.
